For some people, animals are emotionless beings that rely solely on their animal instincts to survive. They hunt and forage when hungry and rest and sleep when tired. But in a video shown below, you will see that not only do animals have feelings, but they also develop friendships and bonds that are way beyond what most of us think is the norm. This is the story of Kate and Pippin.
Pippin was only a fawn when Isobel Springett found her in the woods near her farm. Alone and seemingly abandoned, Isobel left Pippin, having hopes that her mother would find her and take the newborn fawn with her. For three days, Isabel heard the fawn crying over and over again, looking for its mother, or maybe anyone that would feed it and take care of it. After the third day, Isobel’s heart couldn’t take it any longer.
A new addition to the family
Isobel took the fawn in, naming her and putting her in her pet dog’s bed. The dog, Kate, an adult female who hasn’t had a litter of its own, immediately fell in love with the fawn lying on its bed. With her maternal instincts kicking in, Kate took care of Pippin, always being at her side. They were inseparable. For some time, they would do everything together. Sleep, play and eat.
When Pippin grew enough, though, the call of the woods may have become too unbearable. Instincts finally kicked in, and Pippin decided to leave and call the forest her home. But in the day time, Pippin would always come back. They would still do the same things they do. When nightfall comes, Pippin would go back to the woods. Kate would follow up to a certain point, look longingly, then goes home.
Their story has received much attention. News stations have picked up on the story, and social media has made their home videos viral. Isobel has even created an award-winning book about the unlikely partnership that the two have developed. Unfortunately, though, Kate passed away in 2018. Share the wonderful memories of Kate and Pippin with the video below.
