Ben and Leah are a couple and they are nomads. They went on a trip from Chile right to Alaska and this took them 6 years. They were focused on completing the trip but did not think that they would be welcoming another one to join them. It was not something they expected but it surely was something that they have warmly welcomed.
One of their stops was Lima, Peru. Here, they met a dog which they found adorable. It was living in the streets and they did not want to leave the dog behind. So they the dog with them and gave her a name – Alaska.
Alaska seems to be enjoying the adventure. They were living in a Volkswagen bus. She quickly adapted and now is traveling with her parents.
The couple found Alaska to be a wonderful dog. She loves connecting with people. Their trip is even a lot more fun now that they have her around.
One day, the couple woke up and noticed that blood was coming out of Alaska’s nose. They immediately brought her to a vet. Some tests were done and it seems like she has Ehrlichia, a disease from ticks and it was already quite chronic. Alaska also started to have failing organs and then paralysis.
The couple was saddened but they wanted to make Alaska feel better. They made sure she got treatment and Alaska was responding positively to it.
Now, Alaska is back to her playful self again. She would always be playing and going after Frisbees and digging up bones.
The vet told them that Alaska will always have Ehrlichia but the couple knows that Alaska will keep on fighting. They will always support her.
The couple is planning on touring the rest of the world. They will continue to do so and Alaska will be with them. She sure is lucky!
