Liza lived in a small neighborhood in Karditsa, Greece for more than a year. She was born a stray and grew up on the streets without a family. But despite it all, she became a sweet and gentle dog.
Neighbors adored the young dog. They didn’t mind having her around. They even greeted her and gave her pets a few times. But when she got sick, no one bothered to help.
The pup had skin disease from living on the streets for too long. In time, her skin got so itchy that she couldn’t stop scratching her body until she hurt herself. Her wounds got infected and she started to smell so bad.
People who were once delighted with the dog detested her. They shooed her away and they wanted her out of their sight. All, but one, refused to offer her help.
A young woman felt sorry for Liza and called DAR Animal Rescue for help. Ermioni Giannakou, one of the co-founders of the group, responded. She drove straight to the given address and met with the young woman onsite.
When Ermioni made it to the neighborhood, she saw Liza on the street. She was amazed by how sweet the dog was, but she also felt sorry because she realized she was in a horrible state. She needed medical care so she took her to the vet right away.
Liza had no luck finding a family when she was healthy. And when she got sick, it seemed impossible for her to ever find a home. Fortunately, DAR Animal Rescue found her and gave her a second chance.
Once determined she wasn’t contagious, Ermioni decided to bring Liza to the shelter, where she will continue her recovery. She will spend her days recovering, and soon, she will begin her search for a forever home. Best of luck, Liza!
