When Sean McCormack saw a woman’s message regarding a dog who desperately needs help on top of the mountain of Taroko National Park, he didn’t think twice to save the dog. Sean is the founder of Animal Care Trust, and he always has a heart for animals. Even a dangerous terrain won’t stop him from saving one.
At first, Sean thought that he could drive up there to the dog’s location because Google maps said so, but it was wrong. It was a 6-hour hike, a trip which he needed to take on foot. The terrain going up is dangerous. And for Sean who didn’t have any experience in hiking, he thought that it would be foolish if he would go alone. So, he reached out to his friend, Ross.
Ross is the co-owner of a trekking company named Taiwan Adventures. He has countless experience in hiking, which is why Sean knew that he would be a big help for him. Fortunately, Ross agreed. He admitted that it’s a brutal hike and it’s smart for Sean to ask for his help.
The two started their 6-hour hike. As they were on their way, Sean thought of giving up while Ross was worried if the villagers would be upset if they took the dog. Both of them thought of a lot of things, but they continued anyway.
Luckily, after the 6-hour, dangerous hike, Ross and Sean finally made it to the remote village. But there’s another problem. They couldn’t find the dog! They thought that they might be too late. Good thing, the two didn’t stop searching. After a while, they noticed something was moving under a pile of chairs, and it was the dog! Sean and Ross regained their energy. They were very determined to get the dog no matter what.
They noticed that the dog really needed some help. He has a missing front paw, and his two rescuers thought that it’s caused by a trap. It must have been extremely painful for him to endure it while trying to walk. Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest problems in Taiwan. Traps and snares are pretty common for them. Sean even explained that most of their rescues are victims of these devices.
Because of the dog’s severe injury, Sean knew that time is of the essence. He needed to get him to the nearest vet. After they finished putting bandages on the dog’s injured legs, they packed the pooch into Sean’s backpack and went to another 6-hour hike going back.
They later named the dog Sandy. He is a very calm and sweet dog. They also noticed how patient he was during their way back. Eventually, they reached the vet. After some few tests, the doctor said that Sandy’s leg injury is quite severe that it has to be amputated. It’s kind of tragic for Sean and Ross to hear the news, but they were relieved after knowing that Sandy’s legs are fitted for prosthetics.
Luckily, Sandy’s story spread and people were touched. Everyone reached out hoping that they could adopt him. It didn’t take time for Sean to finally choose the lucky person to adopt Sandy. But of course, they still have to wait until he is fully healed from his injuries. For now, Ross and Sean are so proud of helping Sandy. They gave Sandy a second chance at life. Their hard work paid off.
